Patience, the grumps, and the flu

So now into day 4 of the flu, whatever form or title it may have. Ups & downs of feeling icky, details not necessary. So after spending most of the day at home, I started to panic about finding things for Katie to do when she came home from school. What for snack? What project? How to keep focused for homework?

Started with the basics for before she arrived - Campbell's chicken soup. One of those things that just make you feel better no matter how old you are. Doubted Katie would eat it.

Then, looked in the fridge...slim pickings. But before my eyes, a glow & angel chorus began, Pillsbury crescent rolls. Again, not a healthy snack, but fills the "snack" and the "project" categories. To bump it up a notch (& just where is Emeril these days), we melted some butter, added some cinnamon & sugar, & presto...cinnamon rolls. It also reminded me of my mother-in-law's mother's amazing recipe for homemade cinnamon rolls. Note to self - need to get Grandma Grove's cinnamon roll recipe for Christmas.

OK, so after spending a day wallowing in selfpity, a bit of patience could be found from digging WAY down and we're having a good afternoon. Won't be winning the mom of the year award, but there are some happy people in the house...including Jake who found the crumbs :)

Let it sludge, let it sludge, let it sludge

So we had another snow storm today, at least it was snow to start & Holliston cancelled school. By 12:30, the rain started and all the fluffy, white snow turned to the consistency of cement sludge. Incredibly deceiving & pretty until you start the shoveling process. Katie still thinks it's "awesome" to shovel, at least for 5 minutes & as long as it's going to a fort or snowman, so don't tell DYS on us. On the positive side, it was 32 degrees so it wasn't as cold as it has been.

However, these are the days that I'm envious of our friends and family that have uprooted and moved to places warm...that is until I see Katie doing a penguin belly flop on a big pile of snow and sliding head first, laughing hysterically to herself. Don't worry, we'll be upset with the heat & humidity come July & August. The joys of living in New England!!!

Let the Blogging Games Begin

As it's now 2009 and someone in the house has a big birthday rolling around this year, (yes, Katie is turning 6 in April), it's time to test the waters and dip my technological toe into the water & start a blog. You'll read posts about a variety of topics: politics, economics, history, recipes, weather, gardening, book reviews, home repair, a wide array of ideas, etc. I promise it will not just me raving or ranting about my family. I hope you enjoy the site and please stop on by to visit anytime!
